ABOUT

The Magnolia Cooperative Preschool (Co-op) has been at our present site for over 50 years and was established several years prior.  We are the oldest and largest cooperative preschool in Seattle. The Co-op admits children of every race, religion, sex, family status, disability and national origin.  We employ 5 teachers who conduct 12 toddler through pre-kindergarten classes .  The Co-op is a non-profit organization, run by a volunteer parent Board.  We have been located at Magnolia United Church of Christ at 3555 West McGraw Street since 1966.

The cooperative preschool is unique in that you and your child enroll in the program together. When your child is a toddler, you both attend class one day a week. 2’s, 3’s 4/5’s and Pre-K classes run from 2 - 4 days a week with each student’s parent or caregiver working once a week in class.  There are many benefits from this involvement:

  • Parents and children share in a high quality preschool program,
  • Gentle and gradual transition to the independence of the kindergarten-
    r
    eady child, and
  • Parents can learn a great deal about early childhood issues and education along the way.

Through years of involvement with this group of children and parents, a community develops. The network of parents, as resources and support, lasts far beyond the preschool years.  Read more about the co-op experience.

The emphasis of our academic program is the social development of the child. Of primary importance is building a child's positive self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence. Social, intellectual and psychological gains are made through creative and cooperative play.
