About Magnolia Cooperative Preschool

Magnolia Co-op offers classes from infant to pre-K along with education for parents and caregivers and meaningful community-building. The cooperative model provides a unique opportunity for children and their caregivers to learn together while forming a lasting network of support. Our member families manage the school’s day-to-day operations.

We are affiliated with the North Seattle Community College Co-op program.

About us

  • The cooperative preschool model is built on mutual involvement from teachers, parents, and parent educators. Learn more about the co-op model, our leadership, and view our handbook.

    • Teachers are responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Meet our teachers

    • Parents / Caregivers assist in the classroom one day each week, attend monthly parent education meetings, and perform the administrative functions of the school via class and school jobs

    • Parent educators provide advice to teachers and support and education to parents. Meet our parent educators

  • Magnolia Cooperative Preschool (MCP) provides a cooperative preschool experience through a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum for children while educating parents and caregivers in the principles of early childhood education and building community among member families.

  • To create a place where all young children have a supportive space to explore, learn and grow, where caregivers and educators unite to create a nurturing environment where every child is valued and cherished. Together, we lay the groundwork for a more compassionate future, fostering resilience, connection, and dedication to the social and emotional wellbeing of every family we serve.

  • We at MCP acknowledge that we are on the unceded ancestral lands of the Duwamish people, a People that are still here, continuing to honor and bring to light their ancient heritage. We take land acknowledgements a step further by actively encouraging our teachers, caregivers, and students to take ownership in protecting our environment. We teach principles of stewardship, sustainability, and active citizenship in supporting the nature around us.

  • Magnolia Cooperative Preschool offers play-based learning programs for students infant through pre-K.

  • The Magnolia Cooperative Preschool curriculum incorporates circle time, free play, and outside time in every class, with snack and field trips for older students. The programs focus on age-appropriate, play-based learning and social emotional development throughout each activity.

  • An expert team from North Seattle College leads monthly caregiver meetings at the school and provides in-class support. The team is also available for one-on-one questions and guidance. Lessons are discussion-based and tailored to each class, helping families build community and learn together.

Our Preschool occupies a wonderful, light filled space on the lower floor of the Magnolia United Church of Christ (no affiliation), where we have thrived for more than 80 years.

Please note, as we are a school run by volunteers, we have no regular office staff or hours.
