FAQs

What is a play-based curriculum?

A play-based curriculum uses children's natural curiosity and exploration as the foundation for learning. Instead of worksheets or rote instruction, children learn through hands-on experiences, imaginative play, problem-solving, movement, and social interaction. Teachers guide and extend learning through intentional materials, open-ended questions, and responsive support.

What is my role as a caregiver in a cooperative preschool?

Caregivers participate directly in the classroom, helping support play, activities, and daily routines. Most classes require working in-class once per week, plus attending monthly caregiver education meetings. Caregivers also participate in class and all-school jobs to support the operations of the school. This partnership strengthens the classroom community, helps families stay connected to their child’s learning, and keeps costs affordable.

Do caregivers attend class every day?

No. Caregiver involvement varies by program. Infant and Toddler caregivers attend every class session, while caregivers in Twos, Threes, and Pre-K attend once per week. This gradual shift supports growing independence while keeping families engaged in the cooperative model.
